Handy Hint for Horses - Teeth
Ever had trouble rasping a horse's teeth?
Young horses in particular may be frightened by the rasping operation. Here are two useful hints:
- Between each horse, wash the tooth rasp in warm water, and just before putting the rasp into the horse's mouth, swish it in the horse's own water bucket. It gives the rasp a taste and smell the horse is familiar with and also lubricates and warms up the rasp.
- Look the horse in the eye to keep its attention while gently sliding the rasp into the mouth - the horse will trust you with its life - well, for a short time!
